Notes about films #001
Lieutenant Viktor Sorokin arrives at the unit after graduating from military school. He is given a platoon, and the lieutenant, who has not yet had time to get used to officer shoulder straps, becomes an educator of soldiers, young guys like himself. It is not an easy task for a newly minted commander to earn the trust and respect of tankers, who at first look at him rather condescendingly. And Sorokin is behaving strangely. Instead of punishing a soldier who casually saluted, he suddenly begins to explain to him when and why this greeting arose (since chivalric times!). During the exercises, the tank fell through the water due to the driver's fault. And the young commander takes full responsibility for himself. Only later, in private, does Lieutenant Sorokin tell the culprit of the incident what he really thinks about this...
The role of Sorokin in the film "Strict Men's Life" (Lenfilm, directed by A. Granik) was played by Anatoly Mateshko. At that time, the young actor had just graduated from the film faculty of the Kiev Theater Institute named after I. K. Karpenko-Kary and himself, as his hero, was on the verge of entering life. This commonality in the biography of the character and the performer of the role could not but determine the passion with which the actor worked on the image. Even now, remembering this work, he considers it the most successful.
This was not the first role. Having just entered the institute, Mateshko starred in the television film "How steel was tempered." His character appeared there for only one or two minutes. He gets up from the concrete floor, slightly covered with straw, on which the Komsomol builders of the narrow-gauge railway in Boyarka lie in close rows, stealthily leaves the barracks and then runs into Pavel Korchagin.
— You bastard! Are you running?!
— I'm not a bastard, I just can't do it anymore, you know, I can't, — the guy says in a strangled voice, then somehow absently pulls off his boots and gives them to Pavel.
In this little episode, the actor managed to accurately convey the state of the character — endless fatigue, shame from the realization that he was scared, turned out to be weaker than others, despair that cannot be with those who remain...
Anatoly Mateshko played tenth-grader Stas in the film "Earthly and Heavenly Adventures", builder Igor ("Channel"), private Doynikov ("Blue Lightning") and a number of other roles. According to these works, we can already talk about the creative face of the young actor. He is characterized by a restrained, I would say, economical manner of playing His characters are distinguished by inner decency, nobility, intelligence. Thus, the line of the performer's search is clear, his desire to comprehend the inner world of the characters, almost always peers, contemporaries.
.. Who is, in fact, Shurik Kleimenov ("Son of a champion")? At first glance, the guy is not serious, a talker, as his father, the senior coach of the alpine skiing team, says about him. Shurik looks ridiculous in his trendy attire against the background of blue-white with colorful figures of skiers on the slopes of Cheget. It's ridiculous, although he can stand on skis — he was a champion himself. But everyone came here to compete, to fight for victory, and Shurik is so easy with his father-coach, riding away from the track. And in general, he does not know what he wants - he gave up skiing, now he is interested in music, but again not seriously: soon, apparently, I will get tired of this activity.
